In the fall semester 2002, a grant from the Quinsigamond
Foundation introduced two state of the art Computer Graphics classrooms for the Applied Arts program. Each Academic
calendar year the APA program accepts 40 full- time day APA
majors with each student assigned a computer work station.
Students learn art concepts and design soft- ware programs
through direct computer application.
Students graduate with measurable proficiency in ten software design programs and are prepared for careers
in print and Internet publishing or matriculation to colleges and universities with baccalaureate programs. Assignments in APA designated courses utilize advanced Macintosh computer operating systems software
with the latest in digital photography, scanning and printing technologies.
The Applied Arts Program established the current computer software based curriculum over traditional
transfer Graphic Design course content. The unique career aspect of the program is that didactic course
content is actualized directly through computer software applications. Student complete assignments
using Industry software design packages.
The Applied Arts Lab is on a 3 year purchase - retire of educational computer hardware schedule. Both APA classrooms are scheduled for upgrade to new G5 Macintosh computers with 17Ó high resolution LCD flat screen monitors in August 2004.
