Course Competencies - Second Semester

APA course content progresses into advanced design technology concepts to move students
toward eventual skill mastery of computer graphic design proficiencies. Students advancie their
knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PageMaker and are introduced to
Adobe ImageReady, Adobe LiveMotion and Adobe GoLive software.

APA 112 Color and Design 11 - VIEW -
1) Learn to use the Macintosh Computer and Adobe Illustrator software program.
2) Learn design elements; unity, balance, texture, etc., and their relationship to successful pictorial
composition, color and spatial considerations.
3) Exploration of basic design concepts to translate art ideas into digital images and illustrations.
4) Learn art terminology and be able to evaluate design images using correct verbal concepts.

APA 122 Graphic Design 11 - VIEW -
1) To further explore design elements and their importance in graphic presentation.
2) To understand the principles of color theory as it applies to advertising design and layout.
3) To understand a basic interrelationship between formal design and typography.
4) To further explore creative processes from thumbnail sketch to a finished mechanical.
5) To differentiate type style for appropriate application.
6) To develop professional skill in copy fitting while retaining legibility.
7) To gain a working knowledge of Macintosh computer systems and PageMaker software.

APA 152 Digital Drawing 11 - VIEW -
1) Learn descriptive drawing techniques for rendering of three-dimensional physical objects.
2) Use digital drawing with computer animation to render drawings with interactivity and motion
3) Acquire a formal and conceptual understanding of space, motion, and perspective theory.
4) Illustrate through digital drawings three-dimensional compositional concepts of space and motion.
5) Create and manipulate images utilizing Adobe LiveMotion, PhotoShop and ImageReady software.
6) Create artistic compositions that combine cell and timeline animation utilizing Adobe LiveMotion,
PhotoShop and ImageReady software.
7) Gain knowledge of Macintosh computer systems with Adobe LiveMotion, PhotoShop and Image-
Ready software file formats.

APA 181 Website Design 1 - VIEW -
1) Acquire a working vocabulary of Internet terminology.
2) Acquire a functional knowledge of navigating and searching the World Wide Web.
3) Understand processes involved in planning, organizing and launching a well-designed website.
4) Understand effective usage of page templates, tables, file formats, links, text and graphics in
creating a well-designed website.
5) Understand the technical processes of creating and maintaining a functioning website.
6) Gain knowledge of Macintosh computer systems and Adobe GoLive Website software.
