Experienced-Based Education at Quinsigamond is founded on the premise that learning derived through life experiences can be assessed and recognized by an award of academic credit. Assessment criteria is deter-
mined by the knowledge aquired rather than the method by which it is gained. The Applied Arts program
has several components of experience-based education included in the APA curriculum.

Cooperative Education offers Internship opportunities in local businesses for students and Faculty through
the QCC Experiences Based Education Department. APA graduates occupy professional employment positions
in 80% of local Graphic Design industries which provide employment outlooks and trends.

Service Learning is a experiential component of the APA curriculum assigned in Print and WebMaster
Production Processes course content. Students work in design teams on community projects creating print
and electronic publications including information gathering and architecture, brochure, logo, and web site design.
Internship Projects offers experiencial learning opportunities to APA students selected based on their design
abilty and software expertise to work with outside and QCC departments creating brochures, logo, posters,
forms, catalogues and web content material. Students engage in professional situations working with faculty
and adminsistrators on college wide projects. View student projects.
Project UpLink is an experiential mentoring opportunity for APA female students to collaborate with Worcsester Public Schools and QCC's Women in Technolgy. This innovative project brings interaction with middle school
female students, QCC's technolgy students and faculty and Administrators
Work Study and Peer Tutors are employed through financial aid availablity or as part of their course content requirements. The Applied Arts program curriculum depends on their ablity to provide assistance to students
on software intricacies and course assignment difficulties.They interact with students on scanning, printing and
computer network problems. Special APA projects are often assigned.
APA students can also earn academic credit through Independent Study. The faculty advisor determines
the nature and scope of the learning experience. Projects can involve subject matter of college courses not
offered at Quinsigamond, or other topics. This option allows students the flexibility to study a subject that is
not offered as a course in the Applied Arts program.
